Karl Johans Avenue

The Karl Johans Avenue, also known as the Karl Johans Street and Karl Johans gate, is the main street of Oslo connecting the Oslo Central Station with the Royal Palace. In the street you can find several restaurants, shops (it can be considered Oslo’s main shopping street), the Parliament, some university buildings, the National Theatre and other important places.

Among the restaurants in Karl Johans Avenue we should mention Friday’s and Hard Rock Cafe, and you can find shops such as H&M and Zara in the avenue.

The street has been named up after the Swedish King Karl Johan who ruled in Norway as well between 1818 and 1844.
